Compact has been awarded the BBC Small Indie Fund for 2026. The award comes with both a substantial cash investment for the company, and a closer relationship with the award-winning team at BBC Film.
Laura McBride of Compact said: “We’re delighted to be included in the Small Indies selection this year – it’s a great vote of confidence, and the award will supercharge our work with Scottish talent.”
Co-founder John McKay added: “Following the worldwide release of our first feature, with our second slated for production this summer, this award sees Compact level up in our journey to become Scotland’s leading producer of international screen drama.”
The BBC said ” As part of the BBC’s commitment to supporting the creative industries in all four nations and boosting production capabilities to deliver the most distinctive content for audiences, the BBC has today confirmed the independent production companies that will receive bespoke mentoring and over £1.95 million in investment over the next year.
All recipients of these funds receive strategic investment, mentors from the commissioning teams, and a programme of introductions to wider BBC teams, to help them grow and develop their ideas and businesses.
Launched in 2020, the TV Small Indie Fund supports the growth of small independent production companies from across the UK with turnovers below £10m, and this year it will have a dual focus following the addition of the Digital initiative.
This year, 29 companies will be supported through the fund and receive a total of c £1.1m.”
